Lydall Incorporated is moving production from St. Johnsbury, Vermont, to Hamptonville, North Carolina, in an effort to consolidate domestic production. The company announced it is cutting 190 jobs from its old location and will add 100 new jobs to its expansion project in North Carolina.
The automotive manufacturer cites the current downturn in the US automotive market as the main reason for its move. Lydall’s two North American plants are currently running at less than 50% capacity. The company hopes to reduce
operating costs while improving efficiency, flexibility, and its competitive position.
The company will employ around 352 workers after the shifting settles, making it the second-largest
manufacturer in Yadkin County. Officials of Yadkin claim Lydall’s move, which follows suit with other manufactures in the country, is another indication of Yadkin’s quality workforce.
