Faith in job security is slowly diminishing as workers all over the nation hear about the rise of unemployment, or are even at times in the audience hearing announcements of layoffs.
Michigan’s Henniges Automotive is no exception. Joe Buote, president of the
United Steelworkers of America Local 455, said after learning about Henniges Automotive’s cutting of more than 200 jobs, “It’s just disgusting how bad it is getting -- we’re turning into a third-world country before our eyes.”
Buote commented that the vehicle company had previously laid off 50 workers on August 26 and issued an additional 125 layoff notices that are to take effect October 5. He also anticipates more jobs being phased out in the future, and that about 100 jobs are heading to the company’s
production facilities in Mexico.
