General Motors announced plans to invest more than $350 million into its Lordstown, Ohio, plant. It’s all a part of the auto giant’s $500 million investment in the production of their new compact car, the much talked-about Chevrolet Cruze. The Cruze is said to be the next generation of fuel-efficient compact cars.
The plant currently builds the Chevy Cobalt, which will be phased out to begin production of the Cruze. GM hopes to have the Cruze on the streets by 2010. The Lordstown plant is planning to add a third shift to help build the new car. The new shift will bring on 1,400 new workers.
