Henniges Automotive announced it is cutting more than 200 jobs by the end of November, and those union employees who keep their jobs will face a three-week shutdown during Christmas time.
The automotive company, formerly known at GDX Automotive, let go of around 50 employees back in August. It also issued 125 layoffs for early October and 60 layoffs in November. The layoffs will bring the total job losses to 235.
The company claims that about 100 jobs will be heading to its
production facilities in Mexico, and officials point to slowdowns at GM as a factor in the decision.
Employees have expressed their disappointment over the cuts and their outrage for the mandatory shutdown during the holiday season. The United Steelworkers of America Local 455 is working with the company to minimize repercussions on
its members and the workforce.
