But in many of the areas, specialized training in office practice or production skills is very helpful. Some individuals in an automobile employment include tool and die makers, patternmakers, electricians, and some craft workers need at least four years of training. In addition, apprentice training is the best way to learn a skilled trade. It can be noted that applicants for apprenticeship usually must be at least high-school graduates while training should include mathematics, science, mechanical drawing, and shop courses. As a whole, apprenticeship includes both classroom and on-the-job instruction. For most craft jobs, apprentices must complete certain length of time or hours for the on-the-job instruction, although some apprentices receive credit for service in the other agencies or other relevant experiences.

Most engineers, laboratory assistants, drafters, and technicians who are directly involve in auto technician jobs are graduates of technical institutes or junior colleges. Engineers, scientists, and most automotive designers must have at least a bachelor's degree with appropriate major, including automotive engineering, industrial design, architecture, or a related field. Likewise, advanced degrees are required for research-and-development jobs while designers should have a background in practical application, such as model building, as well as design theory and techniques.

In addition to the apprentice training opportunities, most manufacturers have on-the-job training programs to maximize its drive of enhancing the skills and knowledge in automotive mechanic jobs. Many technicians, for instance, are trained at company schools or at company expense at local technical schools or junior colleges. There are also training programs for engineers, scientists, and administrative personnel. Manufacturers usually have special training programs for supervisors. Most companies also offer their employees grants, loans, or tuition refund plans for advanced study. However, administrative functions are usually filled by people with degrees in business administration, engineering, marketing, accounting, industrial relations, and related fields.

Moreover, it is difficult to forecast the quantity of people who are engaged with automotive technician careers with certainty as to a particular labor needs of the industry in the coming decades. Even if conditions improve, employment will probably not keep pace with output, as the industry comes to rely more on labor-saving technology, namely robots and computer-generated auto- mechanic system. Though, there are still a number of operations that may be difficult to automate, still manual workers in automotive technician employment who are capable to carry out complex assemblies can still be in demand. As years go by, little employment growth is expected for machinist, took, and die makers. However, other skilled occupations will grow.

Note that in the late 1980s, some of the domestic firms formed partnerships with foreign companies, manufacturing vehicles as join project involving automobile job. In addition, several foreign companies have opened their own plants in the United States, generating new jobs. Early years, Detroit remains the headquarters of the major automobile companies, but many of the manufacturing plants are located throughout the country. The majority of the industry's employees work in the Great Lakes region, including Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and western New York. During this time, the single largest concentration of industry employees is found in the Detroit metropolitan. While aspects of automotive engineering jobs and industry take place in nearly every state in the country, most of the remaining workers are found in California, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, and Texas.

Likewise, wages and salaries in automotive technician employment are among the highest paid in all industries. Plans for tuition payment for those approved education courses are growing in number in the industry, and merit scholarships for children of employees are another feature of most corporations. The majority of productions and maintenance workers in the automobile assembly plants and in the parts plants belong to the International Union, Aerospace and other big organizations in America. Indeed, the manufacture of a motor vehicle is such a complex task that it requires a wide range of occupations. Newer fields of electronics, digitals, wider diversity of products make the industry even more complex for employment.

The increasing use of computers in design, engineering, and production operations should create more automotive opportunities for programmers, system analysts, and other computer personnel. Still a number engineers, scientists, and technicians can still be employed to meet the continuous technological innovations, the industry's research-and-development needs, especially on the task of designing new engines, the aero-dynamic design of the body, its exhaust systems, and some safety equipments. From time to time, the automobile industry always finds innovative ways to adjust to changing public tastes, meet foreign competition, and satisfy government regulations regarding fuel economy and public safety. Truly, it takes great people to do a great automotive engineering jobs.
