Many of us enjoy cars, we like looking at them, driving them, buying and then fixing them up and reselling them to make a good profit. Some people collect cars as hobbies, go to cars shows on a regular basis, and read the latest news and technologies to enter the automotive industry. Accidents are inevitable and many of us have experienced an auto accident at some point in our lifetime. Whether it is our fault or the other drivers fault, accidents can be traumatic and sometimes fatal. Auto damage appraisers are a very popular choice among insurance companies to get accurate estimates on the extent of the damage. Automotive appraisers are very valuable because they provide unbiased information and opinions. These types of appraisers inspect the damage and they relay the information to the adjusters who puts it in a settlement.

Those who do wish to become automotive appraisers should have an extensive knowledge of how to repair vehicles and overall knowledge of automobiles. Those who have experience in repairing and maintenance in the automotive field will have the best opportunities to enter the field of automotive appraisers. Typically those who just are starting out will work under more experienced supervisors and as they learn more on the job will be given more responsibilities and complicated assignments. Once the automotive appraisers begin to show the necessary skills and understand what is required of them will be given assignments to handle on their own.

While there is no formal training or education many who do enter the automotive appraisers field may have some type of business, legal, or financial degrees. Laws and policies vary from State to State so it is very important to remain up to date on the latest laws in the state where you work. The National Appraisal Institute offers a variety of training and educational resources to aid a potential automotive appraiser.

Overall, automotive appraisers are expected to increase over the next decade because with more automobiles on the road accidents will increase. Also, if there are more automobiles on the road more insurance polices are given out, so there will be a need for automotive appraisers to handle the policies. Also, weather conditions will affect the number of automotive appraisers in a given area. Those who work in more seasonal climates such as harsh winter conditions will see more accidents occur.

The average earnings for automotive appraisers are around $49,000 per year with opportunities for advancement such as becoming a supervisor or manager. The Independent Automotive Damage Appraisers Association offers education courses and training programs on a continual basis. They also provide automotive appraising with highly trained professionals.

While the misfortune is not desired by anyone, those who do suffer from some type of accident need those who are trained to get the best estimates on their automobiles so they are not taken advantage of. Some of us know nothing about cars and what the correct amount is to have something fixed when we are in accident. Automotive appraisers take away some of the stress and burden from the victim.

The Auto Appraisal Group is another organization which offers a variety of services such as appraisal of newly restored vehicles or antiques.

Many people put in endless hours restoring old and used cars and want to know how much their vehicle is worth. Some may sell their newly restored vehicle at auction or just want an estimate of how much their vehicle is worth. When sold at an auction the seller would want to get a fair and reasonable price for their time and efforts. Obviously depending on what type of car it is will determine how much it is worth and will be bought for. An appraiser car will give one the peace of mind and the general idea on how much they will look to expect at auction and not have their car devalued.

Becoming an automotive appraiser is a good way to maintain a reliable, good paying career. Unless scientists and technicians develop hover crafts within the next few years we will be driving cars for a very long time. Therefore, we will need automotive appraisers to give estimates on damaged or newly restored vehicles. Those who do enter this field should have a good understanding of every aspect of an automobile and generally like working with them on a regular basis. One wouldn't work on a boat or ship if they didn't like the water to an extent, right?

Ideally, automotive appraisers should have excellent communication skills, be trust worthy, and have high ethical business standards. Those who would like a change of scenery from working on automobiles may be interested in becoming an automotive appraiser because it is less physically demanding. It will also provide formal mechanics with other options if they are no longer able to work on cars for long periods of time do to a physical condition.
